MassHealth Citizenship and Identification Update

State associations and MassHealth operations staff have communicated to the DRA that identity and citizenship requirements will take effect in Massachusetts on July 17, 2006. In the meantime, MassHealth has asked that providers not submit this documentation as part of the application or re- determination process. However, in a confusing development, MassHealth issued an informational e- mail on June 30, 2006 at 4:00pm informing providers of the requirements and used a July 1st start date

We are telling our staff to:

• begin collecting identity documentation.
• discuss the requirements with patients.
• refrain from sending the documentation to MassHealth for now.

Please note: This Citizenship and identity documentation are required for all determinations made after July 17th and not simply for applications submitted after July 17th.
